Birmingham Green recently celebrated a handful of team members who were named as recipients of the Regirer Nursing Scholarship from the Virginia Health Care Association and the Virginia Center for Assisted Living (VHCA-VCAL). We’d like to officially congratulate all of those who applied and were selected from our campus:
- Ms. Honorine T. Atabong | Willow Oaks Assisted Living
- Ms. Dora Gbolonyo | Willow Oaks Assisted Living
- Ms. Gilma L. Gomez | The District Home
- Ms. Linda Quansah | Birmingham Green (Health Center)
- Ms. Sundos Sahid | The District Home
- Ms. Sarah J. Sandberg | The District Home
- Ms. Gloria M. Yanez | Willow Oaks Assisted Living
Each awardee received $2,000 towards the cost of their nursing education. Scholarship recipients are current VHCA-VCAL member employees who commit to working in long-term care while furthering their nursing education. At Birmingham Green, we’re committed not only to the well-being of our residents, but also that of our team members.
Since its creation in 1997, The Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation, the 501c(3) tax-exempt organization affiliated with VHCA-VCAL, has supported the Regirer Nursing Scholarship program, awarding 575 Regirer Nurse Scholarships totalling $864,725. The scholarships are named for Walter and Maria Regirer – members and leaders of VHCA-VCAL who led efforts to improve access to long-term care education for career professionals.
The program is designed to promote and support quality care, and to enhance the education and training of individuals currently working in VHCA-VCAL member facilities. Scholarships are awarded annually to those individuals who want to advance their careers by earning their LPN or RN degree.
Congratulations again to this year’s scholarship recipients from Birmingham Green! Thank you for doing your part to better the lives of the seniors on our campus and in our community.
